Welcome to Year 4 where you will find Mr Musker (class teacher), Miss Bewley (teaching assistant) and Mrs Welsh (teaching assistant).
Things are slightly different this year at Sylvester Primary Academy but many things are the same and one is that we will endeavour to make Year 4 both enjoyable and educational.
Reading: This year your child will be doing lots of reading in school but we also need your help to boost your child’s reading. Each Monday, your child will bring a reading book home to practise with you. Once they have finished the book send it back on Friday please and we will then send a new book home the following Monday. Furthermore, Sylvester have invested heavily in a fun, interactive learning resource called Reading Eggs. Your child has login details and can access this at home. Please encourage them to do so as they will really benefit from this resource. Contact the school if your child doesn’t know their login details please.
Spellings: Each Monday, your child will bring home their spellings. We would like them to learn their spellings each night before they are tested on a Friday. At this time, your child doesn’t need to return their spellings to school.
Topics: Our first topic this year is called Ancient Egypt. During this topic, Year 4 will be studying what life was like at the time of the pharaohs. Our English lessons will link into this theme as we will be studying two books based upon Ancient Egypt (Who Built The Pyramids? and The Story of Tutankhamun). Our DT topic (Board Games) and our Computing topic (Interactive Games) will also have an Egyptian theme. Our Maths topics this term are Place Value, Problem Solving and Shape. Our Science topic this half-term is Humans and Teeth.
PE: You child will have a PE lesson on a Monday and Thursday. We would like your child to attend school, on these days, in their PE kit during this time.
Homework: Each Friday, your child will be set a piece of homework (Maths or English). Much of the homework set will be remote and online. If your child is sent a worksheet we would like you to mark it at home and not return it at this time. Answers will be available each weekend on Class Dojo.
