Welcome to Year 1/2

Teacher: Miss R. Tomlinson

Support Staff: Mrs Z. Welsh & Miss J. Hogg

We are pleased to welcome you to our Year 1/2 class website page. We are looking forward to a successful autumn term where we will learn our routines and expectations as we settle into our new class and year group. Establishing these routines will help the children feel confident, secure and ready to learn.

A major focus of our daily provision will be phonics. We use Read Write Inc for our Phonics and Handwriting. This forms a key part of early reading and writing, and children will take part in regular phonics teaching each day. To support progress at home, we ask that parents and carers read with their child regularly. Frequent reading at home helps children develop fluency, confidence and enjoyment of books, and it also supports the work we are doing in school.

We will also be working hard on our handwriting skills throughout the term. This will include ensuring the correct pencil grip and practising correct letter formation so that children can build good habits from the start. Clear, consistent handwriting expectations will support both presentation and written accuracy.

Our PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday. On these days, children should come to school wearing their school PE kit. Please ensure that children are dressed appropriately for physical activity and that all clothing is clearly named.

We encourage parents and carers to look at the curriculum overview document attached. This provides useful information about what the children will be learning across the term and will help you to support learning at home.

Thank you for your continued support as we begin the autumn term together.
