We are excited to welcome you to Year One and are looking forward to a wonderful term full of fun and learning. We have a very busy term ahead for our Year One children preparing them both academically and emotionally for their transition into Year Two, but we hope that they still continue to embrace the excitement and challenges of being in the infants.
-On Monday’s spellings will be sent out for the children to practice for their spelling test on a Friday.
-On Wednesday’s the children are to come to school wearing their PE kit, preferably with Velcro fastening shoes as staff are unable to tie shoe laces with the current restrictions.
-Children need to bring a clearly labelled water bottle that can either be disposed of or washed at home daily.
-Book bags do not need to be brought into school.
-If your child is bringing a packed lunch this needs to be in a disposable bag that will be disposed of in school.
-Children currently cannot bring home any pieces of art or other creations that they might make within the day.
This is to minimise items travelling between home and school.
Our topic this term is Eco-Warriors
In English we are reading Stanely’s Stick by John Hegley where the children will be focusing on predictions of what might happen and create their own narrative using their imagination of what an ordinary objects can become when we pretend. Later in the term we will be looking at Dinosaurs and all that rubbish by Michael Foreman in which we will be looking at how we can keep our earth healthy and create an information leaflet to tell people how to look after our world.
In Mathematics we are focusing on addition and subtraction to 20 and place value to 100.
