Welcome to Year 3S

Teacher: Mrs M. Summerfield

Support Staff: Miss S. Cavanagh & Mrs A. Douglas

We hope you have had a fantastic summer break and we hope you have a great start to the new school year. We are looking forward to a wonderful term, which promises to be exciting and eventful. We have a very busy term planned for the year 3 children and hopefully they can embrace the challenges of starting KS2.

Our literacy tree units will focus on ‘Our Tower’ and ‘The First Drawings’ this half term. We will also have daily guided reading sessions and listen to a range of fantastic stories in class. Our maths work will focus heavily on place value this term as the children need to have a clear understanding of numbers as we move through the maths curriculum.

Our science unit this half term is chemistry-rocks and we will also be starting our biology unit of plants.

After the October half term our literacy tree units for Autumn two will be ‘Tin Forest’ and ‘Barnabus Project. Our science unit will be animals including humans.

Every child will have a reading book to bring home in order to improve their reading skills, vocabulary and comprehension. Please support your child as much as possible at home.

Spellings will be sent home every Monday and need to be learnt for our spelling test on a Friday. Homework will be sent home on a Friday.

Our PE sessions with Mrs Goldson will be every Tuesday and Wednesday. Children can wear their PE kits for school on those days.

If you have any questions or queries, please contact the school office. Appointments can be arranged to meet with class teachers.

Thank you for your support,

Mrs. Summerfield and Mrs Douglas.
