Ms Lacey- Teaching assistant (1:1)
Mrs Cavanagh- PPA Teacher
Mrs Goldson- PE Teacher
We hope you have had a lovely Easter break. We are looking forward to a wonderful summer term, which promises to be exciting and eventful. We have another very busy term planned for the year 1/2 children and hopefully they can continue to embrace the challenges of KS1.
Our literacy tree units will continue to focus on ‘The Goldilocks project’ including ‘Goldilocks and the three bears, Me and You and Goldilocks and just the one bear’. We will also be focusing on ‘The Journey Home’. We will also have daily guided reading sessions and listen to a range of fantastic stories in class. Our maths work will focus heavily on multiplication and division this term as the children begin to look at counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.
Our science unit this half term is planta (biology) and we will also be continuing our physics unit of seasonal changes.
After the May half term our literacy tree units for Summer two will be ‘The House held up by trees’. We will use this text to delve into the impact we can have on our environment. Our science unit will continue with ‘Living things and their habitats’.
Every child will have access to ‘Reading Eggs’ which is an online reading program that has been used across school in order to improve children’s reading skills, vocabulary and comprehension. Please support your child as much as possible at home to access this wonderful resource. Reading books will be sent home weekly and these will be linked to their phonics group.
Homework will be sent home every week, alternative weeks for English and Maths.
Spellings will be sent home every Monday and need to be learnt for our spelling test on a Friday.
Our PE sessions will be every Tuesday afternoon and Thursday morning. Children can wear their PE kits for school (white and blue Sylvester t-shirt, shorts/joggers and black pumps/trainers). PE kits can stay in school on children’s pegs for the half term if you prefer.
If you have any questions or queries, do not hesitate to contact me via ClassDojo or telephone school.
Thank you for your support,
Mrs. Summerfield, Mrs Douglas and the year 1/2 team.
