Mrs. Summerfield - Teacher
Mrs. Douglas - Teaching assistant
Mrs Cavanagh - PPA Teacher
Mrs Goldson - PE Teacher
We hope you have had a fantastic summer break and we hope you have a great start to the new school year. We are looking forward to a wonderful term, which promises to be exciting and eventful. We have a very busy term planned for the year 1/2 children and hopefully they can continue to embrace the challenges of KS1.
Our literacy tree units will focus on ‘Billy and the Beast’ and ‘Dragon Post’ this half term. We will also have weekly guided reading sessions and listen to a range of fantastic stories in class. Our maths work will focus heavily on place value this term as the children need to have a clear understanding of numbers as we move through the maths curriculum.
Our science unit this half term is biology-humans and we will also be starting our physics unit of seasonal changes.
After the October half term our literacy tree unit for Autumn two will be ‘Jim and the beanstalk’. Our science unit will be classifying animals.
Every child will have access to ‘Reading Eggs’ which is an online reading program that has been used across school in order to improve children’s reading skills, vocabulary and comprehension. Children will be assigned tasks on reading eggs to complete in school and at home if they have access. Please support your child as much as possible at home to access this wonderful resource.Reading books will be sent home weekly linked to their phonics group.
Homework will be sent home every week, alternative weeks for English and Maths. Homework is an important part of your child’s education and it would be much appreciated if you could fully support school with this.
Spellings will be sent home every Monday and need to be learnt for our spelling test on a Friday.
Our PE sessions with Mrs Goldson will be every Tuesday afternoon and Thursday morning. Children can wear their PE kits for school on those days.
If you have any questions or queries, do not hesitate to contact me via classdojo or telephone school. Obviously during the school day, it is very difficult to respond to queries, but between 3.30pm-5.30pm I will try my best.
Thank you for your support,
Mrs. Summerfield and Mrs Douglas.
