Year 1

Welcome to Year 1

Mrs Williams - Teacher

Mrs Simpson - Teaching assistant

Mrs Cavanagh- PPA Teacher

We hope you have had a lovely Summer. We are looking forward to a wonderful Autumn term, which promises to be exciting and eventful. We have a very busy term planned for the year 1, which we hope will excite and inspire your children to embrace the challenges of KS1.

Our literacy tree texts this half Autumn term will be ‘Cave Baby’, followed by ‘Naughty Bus’. We will also listen to a range of fantastic stories in class. Our maths work will focus heavily on place value this half term.

Our science unit this half term is Animals including Humans (biology), and we will also be observing seasonal changes (physics) which will be ongoing across the school year.

After the October half term, our literacy tree units for Autumn two, will be ‘Sidney, Stella and the Moon’. We will use this text to create our own moon fact-files! Our science unit will continue with Animals including Humans.

Every child will have access to ‘Reading Eggs’ which is an online reading program that has been used across school in order to improve children’s reading skills, vocabulary and comprehension. Please support your child as much as possible at home to access this wonderful resource. Reading books will be sent home weekly (each Wednesday), and these will be linked to their phonics group.

Homework will be sent home every week, alternative weeks for English and Maths.

Spellings will be sent home every week and need to be learnt for our spelling practice on a Friday morning.

Our PE sessions will be every Tuesday and Friday afternoon. Children can wear their PE kits for school (white and blue Sylvester t-shirt, shorts/joggers and black pumps/trainers).

If you have any questions or queries, do not hesitate to contact me via ClassDojo or telephone school.

Thank you for your support,

Mrs Williams and the KS1 team
