Reading Tips for Parents

Sylvester Primary School is continually committed to exploring ways in which we can improve our reading provision. As a result, we have recently purchased new Reading Records to improve communications between home and school concerning your child’s progress in reading. Reading underpins the whole of the primary curriculum, and as a result it is crucial that the pupils practise their reading skills regularly, both in school and at home.

The Reading Record will accompany your child’s home reader. We would like you to encourage your child to record or comment on any reading that they do at home and return the record on a daily basis. This reading may include comics, magazines or library loans. Inside the Reading Record, there are reading tips and potential questions you could ask your child which may improve their comprehension skills.
