Sing Up – Gold Award School

Sing Up Gold Pledge

In October 2014 we applied to Sing Up and took the pledge to achieve the Sing Up Gold Award.  The Sing Up Awards recognise and celebrate schools that put singing at the heart of school life.  Watch this space for pictures of how much fun we have singing at The Sylvester Primary School!

Autumn Term 2014 – Singing at The Sylvester

Throughout this term singing has been an integral part of our curriculum. Year 3 and 4 have had curriculum singing linked to their themes of The Tudors and My Liverpool Home.  Year 3 have recently performed Imagine by John Lennon in our Christmas Concert.

Every week we have staff and pupils learning new songs with Hayli our singing teacher.  This term we have learned Firework, Merry Christmas – War is Over, Happy, We are the World to name but a few.  Mrs Brown our Headteacher also teaches us songs in her assemblies, which are always good fun.

In many of our lessons we sing.  In maths we sing number songs and in French we learn through song.

This term there have also been lots of Christmas songs.  Our EYFS and KS1 performed their Christmas Play – Christmas with the Aliens, they sang lots of songs and learned lots of actions.

Our Key Stage 2 pupils have performed a Christmas Concert for parents.  The children have learned 6 different Christmas songs.  Our Choir have also performed the song ‘A Long time ago in Bethlehem.’

Our Young Voices after school singing group have gone from strength to strength this term, learning many of the songs for the performance in Manchester next March.  We can’t wait!

Spring Term

Young Voices – March 2015

Our Young Voices Singing Group travelled to the Phones 4U Arena in Manchester on Tuesday 3rd March to perform with a mass choir made up of children from various schools around the North West.  They performed a variety of songs ranging from an Andrew Lloyd Webber Medley to performing with X Factor Finalist Lucy Spraggan.  This really was an experience of a lifetime for our children and something they will never forget!

On the 21st September 2015 The Sylvester Primary School was awarded the Sing Up GOLD Award.  This award was recognition of the work the school has done around putting singing at the heart of school life.
